music is a huge part of my life. over the last few years, i have realized that there are many excellent bands in the world, struggling to make ends meet. they’ve got a clear vision for themselves and an undeniable message of love, but they’re held back financially (or at the very least, they are not able to live comfortably while pursuing their musical dreams, knowing bills will be paid and good meals will be eaten).
if i could, i would financially support the small bands i love who are seeking to show the world God’s love through song, whether directly or indirectly. for now though, i’m doing what i can to help them out and today that is spreading the word about them. [not all these bands are necessarily “christian,” but some of the members are christians and/or they are positive and inspiring.] visit their pages. give them a listen. if you like what you hear, spread the word.
Mae – not so much a little-known band anymore, but still unheard-of by many…my favorite band.
This Day & Age – lead singer Jeff Martin left November 2006 after five years…almost my favorite band; remaining members formed The Reign of Kindo.
The Reign of Kindo – previously members of “This Day & Age” minus the lead singer, plus a bassist; unique sound, lots of keyboard melodies which i love…i knew these guys wouldn’t disappoint.
Mikeschair – recently signed to CURB records; featured on Evan Almighty soundtrack; talented God-loving men, good lyrics and beat; very personable!
Esterlyn – these guys are currently recording their debut album. Amazing hearts for God + pure sound = good tunes.
A Cadence of Sorts – recently introduced to them; a little different than i typically enjoy, but i think these guys have a lot of potential and a good level of emotion; i also love the intensity of many of their lyrics; their album is currently FREE for download, which is another plus.
Mainstay– these guys might be more well-known than i assume, but on the off-chance that someone hasn’t heard of them, i mention them here. i love them. high energy, quality talent, amazing lyrics, a must-hear. (New album out this Tuesday, 9.25.07).
i hope to add to this list over time. there are other small bands i like, but haven’t liked enough to warrant mentioning. if you have any bands you’ve discovered that aren’t “big” yet, let me know. i’d love to find new music!
