So I won’t be winning Nano this year, for those of you whom I didn’t tell. I started too late, the subject material is too serious to speed through it and more important things came up to steal my time away. I’m actually pretty disappointed about it because I don’t like to quit things, but I plan to participate and WIN next year. Congrats to my friend Jeff who already won 🙂 And Liz, keep up the great work!!! You can do it!
Happy Vegan Thanksgiving! November 28, 2008
I was in the kitchen a lot today. I made tofu turkey, mashed sweet potatoes, roasted vegetables, gravy, pumpkin cheesecake and peanut butter bomb cookies (by Hannah Kaminsky). It was my first vegan Thanksgiving and it’s been a great one! My favorite of everything was probably the gravy, cheesecake and cookies. I think I have something of a sweet tooth today. 🙂 Here are some pictures:
celebrate the turkeys! November 27, 2008
Thanksgiving is tomorrow. THANKSGIVING. Not “turkey day.” I have heard this phrase several times this week and it’s like someone shoving a knife into my chest. When you hear “Presidents’ Day” or “Martin Luther King Jr. Day” or “Labor Day,” do you think of mass murdering? No, because these are days to celebrate specific things. No turkeys are being celebrated tomorrow except the ones at Farm Sanctuary. Instead, millions of them are being slaughtered. Around 40 million for Thanksgiving alone seems to be the consensus in a quick google search. Staggering for one day of the year.
Appropriate for this time frame, Peta released footage of another investigation, this time in a turkey factory farm. Behavior as appalling as all the others.
Spare a life and don’t eat any turkeys this Thanksgiving!
"Somewhere" November 19, 2008
My most favorite band, MAE, has released a new song for free download. It’s excellent! You can access it by signing up for the email list on their myspace page. An email will be sent to you with a link for the song and an overview of what’s to come in the year ahead. I am so looking forward to all the things they have planned, including a soon-to-be released 5-year anniversary dvd. Good stuff indeed.

I didn’t quite reach my goal for today of 20K words, but I accomplished a lot. It was my first weekend free in about 2 months, so I enjoyed some free time and spent the rest of it writing…approximately 10 or so hours. I hope to get to 35K by next Sunday night. That would leave 15K for the last week, which is still a lot, but won’t encourage all-nighters like last year.
